Summer of Wonder: Sun

Each week during this Summer of Wonder, we are looking closely at a different part of God’s creation, wondering at the beauty, science, and mystery of the world around us. This week, we are examining the sun.

Scripture:

Genesis 1:14-19, Psalm 19:1-6 (ERV)

The heavens tell about the glory of God.

The skies announce what his hands have made.

Each new day tells more of the story,

and each night reveals more and more about God’s power.

You cannot hear them say anything.

They don’t make any sound we can hear.

But their message goes throughout the world.

Their teaching reaches the ends of the earth.

Wondering Questions:

  • I wonder what it could mean for the skies to tell a story?

  • I wonder what you feel when you look at the skies?

  • I wonder what we can learn from the sky?

Story:

This book shares lots of wonderful ways the sun can bring joy and beauty to our lives. Listen and follow along as I read, The Sun Is My Favorite Star, by Frank Asch.

Activities:

  • Construction paper sun prints - Use the power of the sun to create prints of objects on your paper!

  • Shadow art with kids - There are so many possibilities for how you can use shadows to make art! Which of these ideas looks the most fun to you?

  • Photo/Video Project -

All summer long on the Kids Wing Blog, we are celebrating this Summer of Wonder by looking closely at God’s amazing creation. We will be putting together a video at the end of summer of all the beautiful things we saw all summer, so any time you notice something interesting that God made, take a picture or a 3 second video, and send it to me! You can send that to my email lianna@sanctuaryic.org.

Song/Video Playlist

Let’s watch some videos to learn more about the sun, and sing songs about the sun too!

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Amazing God,

Thank you for the skies, the sun, the heavens, and the story they tell.

When we see their beauty, we are amazed by your power!

Amen.
