Jesus Returns to Nazareth
/Last week we learned about Jesus and his family fleeing from their home and finding refuge in a new place. We wondered together about how we also can find safety and strength in God and with each other.
This week we are beginning to look at what Jesus did when he grew up. What did Jesus do? What did he say? Why did Jesus come? What can we learn from him? We will start today with a story of when Jesus returned to Nazareth, the town where he grew up.
Story - Jesus Returns to Nazareth
From Luke 4:14-22 (ERV)
Wondering Questions
I wonder what it could feel like to be blind and then be able to see?
I wonder how it could feel to be in prison and then be set free?
I wonder how it could feel to be treated badly and then be welcomed with love?
I wonder what we can learn from what Jesus said and did?
Songs
When we hear really good news, it feels so exciting and wonderful! Singing is a fantastic way to express your feelings and share your joy. Here are three songs all about God’s Good News. (Fun fact: The first song is by James Tutson, one of our members at Sanctuary and someone who also preaches sometimes!) I hope you sing along with me and enjoy!
Activity - Scrolls
When Jesus read aloud from the scroll at the synagogue in Nazareth, he was talking about himself, telling people what God wanted them to know about him.
What would you want people to know about you? What would you share about your personality, your gifts or talents, or things you are interested in? What would you tell others about your goals or what you might do in the future? You can make your own “scroll”, which is a fancy rolled up piece of paper, and tell about yourself. If you like, when you’re finished, you can roll up your paper and tie it like a scroll.
You can print the image below, or use a plain piece of paper.
Prayer
I’m praying this for you today! Have a great week!
