Loving Our Neighbors - Kindness Rocks
/For the past several weeks, we have been exploring what it means to love our neighbors. First we looked at the Bible story of the Good Samaritan. Then we read the book Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too and thought about lots of things we can do to show love to others, such as a project for making scarves to help keep people warm this winter. Last week, we sang songs as a way to focus on meaningful words and connect with God and others as we sing.
This week, we are ready to take action. Have you heard about Kindness Rocks? You can spread kindness and love to others, just by painting a rock with inspirational words and leaving it where others can find it. Here is a video that can show you more.
Are you feeling inspired to try it? Here’s how to do it.
Wondering Questions
I wonder what word or phrase might make someone feel happy?
I wonder who might find the rock you create?
I wonder what that person will think and feel when they find your rock?
I wonder if there are other ways to show kindness and love to all people?
Loving Our Neighbors Packet Pickup
Today (Sunday, September 27), from 3-5 p.m. you can come to Sanctuary to pick up a packet of materials for this month’s theme of Loving Our Neighbors. In the packet, there will be a rock and a paint pen that you can use to create your own Kindness Rock! If you can’t make it today, you can still participate by finding a smooth rock and using whatever paint or markers you have at home.
Make sure to ask your grownup if it’s ok before you leave a rock somewhere. It’s important to only put rocks in safe, public places. When in doubt, ask permission!
