Lent Resources for Families
/Here you’ll find resources that you can use with your family during Lent. You might choose one thing to focus on together as a family, or maybe all of them will be useful at different times. Each journey can be different. Blessings and prayers to you all during this season!
Giving Jar
Start with an empty jar. Each day of Lent, add your extra coins. After Easter, donate the money to a cause that is meaningful to you.
Gratitude Jar
Start with an empty jar. Each day of Lent, write down what you are thankful for. On Easter, read them all aloud together, thanking God for all the good gifts you’ve received.
Prayer Jar
Start with an empty jar. Each day of Lent, write down who or what you are praying for.
Lent Journey
Fill in each day with something meaningful to you. You might write down a word that describes God, something or someone you are praying for, or how you felt God’s closeness that day. Maybe you’ll have a different idea!
Pray, Fast, Give
Praying, fasting, and giving are three practices that people sometimes do during Lent to help them feel close to God as we move towards Easter. Here are some ideas for ways you might participate, or you can think of your own.
Paper Chain
Print 4 copies of the dotted line paper below, cut along the lines, and create a paper chain to help you count down to Easter. On each chain link, you could write a Bible verse, something you prayed for, or a Pray/Fast/Give practice you did that day. Or maybe you have another idea.
Bake Pretzels
Pretzels have been a traditional food to eat during Lent because they could be made with just 3 ingredients: flour, water, and salt. Even if people were fasting from meat, dairy, and eggs during Lent, they could still have pretzels! Some people also think pretzels look like arms folded across the chest in prayer.
Whether these pretzels help you fast, pray, or just enjoy making food for your body, I hope you have fun! Ask for help from a grownup when cooking!
